Overiew of the Learn Together Curriculum


The Learn Together Curriculum is divided into four strands:

                   1. Equality and Justice
                   2. Belief Systems
                   3. Ethics and the Environment
                   4. Moral and Spiritual

Every Educate Together school creates a school plan of work on these strands based on the curriculum developed by Educate Together. The original curriculum documents can be purchased from the educate together website at www.educatetogether.ie/ or downloaded from http://learning.educatetogether.ie/ if you register (for free).

At Belmayne Educate Together we study two of the strands in detail as a whole school each term. We study 3 faith systems a year plus belief systems that are non religious, i.e aetheism, humanism. For term 1 we are covering the Moral and Spiritual strand and the Belief Systems strand on the topic of Islam.

Term 2- Equality and Justice



As a whole school we will focus on the following rights in the UN convention:
  • Week 1 –article 2 all children have the same rights no matter who they are, where they live, what their parents do, what language they speak, what their religion is whether they are a boy or a girl, what their culture is, whether or not they have a disability, whether they are rich or poor.   • Article 26 and 27 children have the right to help from the government if they are poor or are in need. They have the right to food clothing, a safe place to live, and to have their basic needs met. They should not be disadvantaged so that they cannot do some of the things many other children do.
  • Children have the right to the best health care possible, clean water, nutritious food, a clean and safe environment and information article 24
  • Children have a right to say about that things that affect them Article 12
